In time and space, behavior is implemented in a predictable sequence. A preceding stimulus provokes or triggers behavior, which is then implemented. As a result of behavior, a consequence may be another stimulus in the environment. In applied behavioral analysis, the antecedent-behavior-consequence sequence is called three-term contingency (ABC).
The three-term contingency (ABC) represents the central concept of behavior analysis. It is the fundamental unit of operant behavior analysis based on the causal relationship between the antecedent, the behavior, and the consequence within the environment.
Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA).
